IC Information:
Name: preincarnation: Basil, reincarnation: Basilio Lombardi
Canon and Medium: Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Manga
Age: Thirteen
Preincarnation Species: Human
Preincarnation Appearance: I swear he isn't always on fire. No, really!
Any Differences: He doesn't dress only in half a suit, he wears t-shirts and things too, though that's about all that looks different
Starting Location: Locke City, NJ, USA
Preincarnated History: Basil is a member of the Vongola's CEDEF ("Consulenza Esterna Della Famiglia," Italian for "External Advisors of the Family") and the apprentice of the boss, Iemitsu Sawada. His exact role in the CEDEF is unknown but he is shown to be trusted with the most important missions. Basil has sand blonde hair, blue eyes and speaks archaic Japanese, which was the result of a prank by Iemitsu, who purposely taught him wrong. He is the youngest of the seen CEDEF members. Basil's actual origin, outside of being of Italian descent, is unknown. What little that has been revealed is that Iemitsu has been acting as a father-figure. He is also an idol to Basil as he looks up to him greatly.

Basil is a key participant in three points in canon: the Battle for the Rings arc, the Future Arc, and the Curse of the Rainbow arc.

The Ring Battles are about who would succeed the ninth generation Vongola boss as the tenth boss--either Tsuna, the rightful canidate, or Xanxus, the leader of the Vongola's independent assassination squad (Varia) and the Ninth's adopted son. Basil's role was to help the hitman Reborn train Tsuna to use Hyper Dying Will mode and to deliver to Tsuna the half-Vongola rings on Tsuna's father's behalf. The rings ensured Tsuna would have some say in becoming the Tenth boss and Basil was the only other person besides Tsuna that had the ability to use HDW mode at the time, who also had the leeway to go and train him.

The Future Arc centers around the Vongola Rings which are in the possession of Tsuna and his guardians, the Mare Rings in possession of Byakuran and his Real Six Funeral Wreathes and the Pacifiers the Arcobaleno's have. These three sets of seven items (collectively called the Tri-Ni-Set) are what balances the world, with each set controlling a different aspect: Mare can connect parallel universes, Vongola can predict future linearly (the Vongola 'Hyper Intuition'), and the Arcobaleno sees the future in other timelines. In the Future Arc, Byakuran is in possession of the Mare rings, and he has used them to conquer innumerable alternate timelines, except one. This one last free timeline is where the current Vongola Tenth generation (Tsuna + Guardians + Basil) is sent, ten years into the future as the future-them have destroyed the Vongola rings, which they needed to defeat Byakuran. Basil joins them ten years into the future as another friend who has fighting abilities strong enough to assist them in taking out Byakuran, and as another person to help train their new skills against.

In the Curse of the Rainbow Arc, the Arcobaleno all need to select representatives to fight on their behalf, so they may get their curse lifted off them. Basil was chosen as one of Colonello's representatives, which included Iemitsu (Tsuna's father), Turmeric and Oregano (also members of CEDEF). For the first part of the arc, Basil stands as an adversary to Tsuna, who is Reborn's representative. Basil mostly spies on other teams instead of fight in this half, as CEDEF is first and foremost an information gathering branch of Vongola, and information can be used later in the contest. Part way through him spying, a new team arrives and attacks the group he's watching, injuring all the representatives there. It's revealed to be Bermuda and the Vindice (Mafia prison's warden and guards), here to stage war on all the Arcobaleno using the tournament. The original teams gather together after that, to create one alliance against Bermuda. Basil plays a larger part in this section, as he is one of the four people in this tournament who can use HDW mode, and one of three of those four that can fly (making them a very mobile attack force). The other two are Tsuna and Enma, the tenth generation boss of the Simon family, which has strong ties and a comparable fighting power to the Vongola. While the other representatives act as bait, Basil and co move from one location to another taking out the Vindice as they attack. They're successful in the first battle, while Basil is injured and taken out of the fight in the second one.

Reincarnated History: Basilio was born in the south Italy city of Naples as the only child to two loving parents, and has a large extended family there, all of whom are very close. When he was nine, his family moved to Locke City to start a restaurant with Basilio's mother's sister and her family, as a sort of fresh start away from the chaos of Naples. Shortly after the grand opening, Basilio's father died from complications with pneumonia. This left Basilio to be raised by his newly-widowed mother and his aunt, uncle and cousins. He helps out as an assistant cook or as a waiter in the restaurant on weekends and whenever homework permits him to on weekdays. His mother, aunt and uncle jointly are the people who run the restaurant. His cousins also help, though not all of them are solely employed there, and people outside the family do work there as well.

When Basilio and his family moved to the USA, his father was the only one that spoke a decent amount of English. Basilio spoke no English at all, maybe a word or two. He spent his time in elementary school learning English, and now attends Locke City public middle school. He works very hard but due to still working through learning English he is generally only a B student. He also doesn't have many friends, though he gets along with most people (they're "classmates" not "friends"). Thanks to his cousins, even though they are all older than him, he hasn't been totally alone as far as people to play with when he was younger and new to America.

Basilio and his family do visit Italy occasionally, usually once, maybe twice in a good year (international trips can be expensive!). His family isn't extremely strapped for money, though they aren't wealthy either. They're comfortable and happy as middle class.

First Echo: After seeing the destruction the Wise Snake did to the business district, Basilio had memory return of a building being destroyed by a man with long hair and a sword for a hand. He knows the man was after him, but not why. This memory returning also made him remember karate moves he hasn't learned (though he still doesn't have the training to make use of them).

Preincarnation Personality: Basil might come across to people as a very odd teenager during first impressions when they first meet him due to his out dated way of speaking. This impression will not go away. However they will also realize that he is polite to a fault and rather formal with his use of suffixes.

Basil is very polite in his speech and mannerisms and, because of how he was taught Japanese, speaks very old fashioned and out dated: thee, thou, thy, etc. Basil uses the honorific of "-dono" to address most people, with the exception of Reborn who is addressed with "-san" and Iemitsu who he calls "oyakata-sama" which can be translated to "parent-figure" and is used to address someone who has apprentices, stands over, cares for, and instructs them in a parental way.

Basil is shown to be someone who is extremely loyal to a cause or person. This was demonstrated when he was trusted with the important mission to carry the Vongola rings and deliver them to the proper heir (Tsunayoshi Sawada) at the beginning of the Varia arc. There is a strong dedication to said missions, also, as Basil is not willing to give up and is willing to sacrifice himself for that mission. At the same time, he does not seem to a bare grudges against those that stand in his way, even if they hospitalize him badly. He is gentle, caring and willing to play with kids, seen when he was playing with Lambo and Ipin in chapter 359.

It is possible that Iemitsu and the other members of the CEDEF are sheltering him from the worst of their lifestyle, leaving Basil as light hearted as he is despite being deeply entrenched with the Mafia.

Basil sometimes “jumps the gun” and assumes the worst case scenario far too early. This flaw was shown when he was introduced in the story (beginning of the Varia arc). Basil was fighting Squalo (of the Varia) and he had assumed that Squalo already knew about Tsuna (who he was, what he looked like, etc). So, when he ran into Tsuna while fighting Squalo, he felt he had to get Tsuna away from Squalo, and subsequently gave away that Tsuna was important and the person who Xanxus and the Varia were going to fight for the tenth Vongola Boss’/Guardians’ positions. Along with jumping the gun, Basil can be very gullible and naive.

Basil is accepting to the point that it doesn't bother him at all when he gets orders from in a book he found near him after being dumped 10 years later into future, with no explanation, in a country he had not been in before. The fact that he had made it to Japan and to the Vongola’s hidden base from the middle of Europe with no allies and constantly hunted by hostile forces proves his dedication to a mission. It is suggested that his sleep and eating habits had been affected drastically as his body pretty much crashed during what was the very last leg of the journey—literally right outside of the entrance to the hidden base.

Basil is determined and wants to show his worth to those he feels are equal and above him, to earn their approval and respect, like when, in chapter 358, he requests to have a rematch with his friend Tsuna to see how strong Tsuna has become and how he measures against Tsuna. At no point, however, does Basil not think that Tsuna is a friend, despite wanting to fight him.

Basil has stated before, in the Future arc, that the Helper’s Book awakens his ‘inner samurai spirit’ whenever he reads it. This ‘Samurai Spirit’ is evident as another part of his personality: he’s very honorable. Basil hated it when in chapter 378 the Vindice mounted a dirty attack against the other teams during the Curse of the Rainbow arc by attacking the teams to destroy their watches while wearing none of their own. He was even more outraged when the Vindice attacked Nana (Iemitsu’s wife, Tsuna’s mother) when she has absolutely no known direct involvement in the Mafia. The attack on Nana also brought out the end of Basil’s patience, something that hadn’t happened prior to this event in the manga. This shows that if someone went after someone Basil cared about he will anger and come after them.

Any Differences: Basilio is different from Basil in a few ways, one being he has no love for the Mafia or joining the Mafia. To him, the Mafia is just a crime organization. The only part he would possibly ever agree with is the idea of protecting family/their own, which can just as easily be rooted in his love for his family and family meaning so much to him.

When he grows up, he wants to take over his family's restaurant, maybe taking his mother's place as head cook and partnering with his cousins, having inherited his mother's love for cooking. Basilio loves his mother dearly, but he doesn't often bring friends home due to being slightly embarrassed with how his mother's English is limited, which often means they don't speak English at home. He can be very self-conscious about being ESL too, since he struggles occasionally with some words, especially when reading things like Shakespeare in English class. Being self-conscious of his own English and his mother's English, and how classmates treated his accent when he first moved here, has also affected his views on friendship. Unlike the original Basil, Basilio doesn't assume everyone is friends with him or everyone else, he actually doesn't have too many (or any people at all) he really considers "friends" instead of acquaintances or classmates.

Basilio also has an apprehension of getting sick, especially with pneumonia or lung illnesses, due to his father dying of pneumonia. He can be very worried over anyone he knows getting sick thanks to his father being sick, making him very much a mother-hen to them. When it's cold out he will carry around cold-preventive items, like vitamin tablets, that he will willingly hand out to classmates if they might be getting sick.

Abilities: Basil fights in Hyper Dying Will Mode by swallowing two Dying Will Pills. Hyper Dying Will Mode is a calmer, more emotionally detached upgrade of Dying will Mode. In Hyper mode, Basil's mind calms and becomes slightly more analytical and his physical abilities are boosted, because hyper mode removes internal limiters (limits on the body made by the mind).

Basil is never seen using Dying Will Mode, an alternate effect of the Dying Will Pills. DWM turns the user into a berserker by using the pressure the user faces during a crisis to externally remove their body's limiters (limits imposed by the body's muscle tone, any injuries or illnesses, physical things). They then use their increased strength to fulfill their Dying Will: the last thought the user regretted before DWM is activated. The user of DWM also has the unfortunate side-affect of losing their clothes, barring their underwear. In contrast, HDWM removes internal limiters, therefore releasing the person's hidden awareness and somehow lets them keep their clothes. Both these modes are represented by the user's flame on their forehead.

His weapon is Metal Edge, a boomerang/blade that is made of a certain kind of material that means he can channel his flames through it. It's a one handed weapon but he can use it in each hand and he can throw it for a long distance shot. It's basically a mid-ranged weapon.

He has a weapon/pet/animal fighting partner in the Box Weapon Alfin the super-intelligent Dolphin. Alfin is released from his box by Basil coating a ring he would be wearing with rain flames (rain flames are just the type of flame Basil has access to, of the seven types) and inserting it into a special niche in the box. Alfin can "synchronize" himself with other Box Weapons to create a super-powered attack that combines the characteristics of all the box weapons used.

Roleplay Sample - Third Person: Basilio had hoped these memories--echoes, the people on that network had said--would really stop happening at such in-opportune times. Like when he was leaning over a tank at Ocean World, where you could pet and even swim with some of the creatures.

...This hadn't been a tank designated for people to swim in. The dolphin that knocked him in however, didn't seem to particularly care about that. Which is why Basilio was now climbing out of the water with help from a disgruntled worker, soaked to the bone and with a new memory of a dolphin now floating in his head. A flying dolphin. That was apparently his (pet? partner? spirit animal?) in some fashion. The idea seemed straight out of a TV show or a comic book. The child inside of himself wanted to laugh and find out more of his cool past aquatic friend, but it was the more rational side of him that thought it would be too weird and would make him stand out too much to suddenly be interested in dolphins after this experience.

He couldn't help the smile and little laugh though, when his older cousins he had come here with bought him a dolphin stuffed toy and shirt from the gift shop on their way out of Ocean World.

Roleplay Sample - Network: [The writing was black and sharp and legible, if very rushed when it came over the network]

Is there someone who can help me? There is a delfino dolphin in my room and my momma cannot know is there anyone who can take it? I do not know how it got here just that it is and it is flying

Per favore please someone
